Minerva

Named for the Roman goddess of wisdom and excellence, Minerva launched in 1942 as the flagship of A Poveira cannery in Póvoa de Varzim. It is one of the best-known Portuguese conserva brands domestically, distinguished by its hand-wrapped vintage label and a strict insistence on fresh Atlantic sardines cooked by the traditional steam pre-cook method. Sold in 35 countries and still produced exclusively with fish caught on the Portuguese coast.
