Cofaco
When tuna stopped migrating through the Algarve in the late 1950s, the industry followed them west. Cofaco arrived in the Azores in 1962, first on Pico, and later consolidated production at Rabo de Peixe in Ribeira Grande on São Miguel, where over 300 workers now produce more than 50 million cans a year. Tenório, Bom Petisco, Bon Appetit, Piri: all Cofaco labels, all tuna from Azorean waters caught by pole and line.
