Barnacle Foods started when Juneau natives Lia Heifetz and Matt Kern began turning home-harvested bull kelp into salsas and pickles, selling out at the first holiday market they set up in their hometown. The company still forages wild Alaskan kelp for its seasonings, including the sprinkle blend built specifically for topping tinned fish.
