The Excelsior brand belongs to the Jamaica Biscuit Company, known as Jambisco, founded in 1911 in Kingston by Lionel DeMercado, Alfred DaCosta, and John Crook as one of Jamaica's first manufacturing operations. Originally producing water crackers baked in brick ovens, the Excelsior brand expanded to include canned sardines, which became a staple of the Caribbean pantry. Jambisco was acquired by the Bermudez Group, a Trinidad-based food conglomerate, in 1999. Excelsior sardines are distributed to Jamaican communities in Jamaica, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the Cayman Islands.
