YOO DONG

Yoo Dong belongs to Yusung Mulsan Gyoyeok, a Seoul trading house founded in 1965 by Kang Sun-geol, a refugee from Pyongyang who paid his way through law school selling newspapers near Dongdaemun before turning to the ginseng export trade. The firm built a squid-processing plant at Mukho in 1972 and in 1980 launched Korea's first canned wild whelk under the Yoo Dong name, a line it still produces at what it calls the world's largest canned-whelk factory.
