Nino Castiglione opened a small plant in the port of Trapani in 1933 to salt mackerel and sardines, then turned to Mediterranean bluefin in the 1940s. Rooted in the Sicilian tonnara tradition, the Erice firm is now one of Italy's largest canned tuna producers.
