Lamprey
Lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) is a jawless, parasitic fish that has been consumed in Portugal for centuries, considered a delicacy particularly in the Minho region where it is caught in the Lima and Minho rivers during its spawning migration. Tinned lamprey is a niche but commercially available Portuguese product, produced by brands such as La Mare. The season is short and supply limited, making tinned lamprey one of the rarer and more culturally specific products in the conservas world.
