Kilka

Small herring-family fish of the genus Clupeonella, native to the Caspian and Black Sea basins (anchovy kilka, common kilka, big-eye kilka). Distinct from the European sprat (Sprattus sprattus), kilka are the staple smoked and tomato-sauce canning fish of Latvia, Russia, and the wider Ponto-Caspian region.
