Finfish
Threadfin
Threadfin encompasses several species of the family Polynemidae, tropical and subtropical coastal fish found across the Indo-Pacific and West Africa. The flesh is delicate and mild, with a characteristic shredded texture when cooked. Threadfin is an important food fish across South and Southeast Asia, West Africa, and parts of Australia, where it is sold fresh and dried. In tinned form it appears from a small number of Asian specialty producers. The Indian threadfin (Eleutheronema tetradactylum) and giant African threadfin (Polydactylus quadrifilis) are among the commercially significant species.
