Minho

Portugal's verdant northwestern province, bordering Galicia across the Minho River, with a coastline centred on the fishing port of Viana do Castelo. The region's Atlantic fisheries feed a small but genuine canning tradition. Vianapesca, based in Viana do Castelo, is the principal local producer, packing sardines, mackerel, and other Atlantic species. The Minho coast shares much of the cool, productive Atlantic character of neighbouring Galicia.
