Scalia

Benedetto Scalia started salting anchovies at Sciacca in 1973, on the Agrigento coast whose fleet still supplies the cannery at Contrada Bordea, and his children Baldo and Maria run it today. Anchovies and sardines are cleaned and packed by hand immediately after landing, with salt as the only cure, and the range extends to colatura di alici, tuna and mackerel. The company holds BRC, IFS and kosher certification and ships to some 20 countries, where its tins appear as Scalia, Scalia Benedetto and Benedetto Scalia, all the same Sciacca house.
