Hotei Foods began in Shizuoka in 1933 as an export canner of tuna and mandarin oranges, and is now best known for a tin that is not fish at all: its yakitori, the benchmark canned grilled chicken in Japan. It still cans its own seafood, mackerel and tuna among it, from the Shimizu coast.
