Iwate Kensan, a prefectural products company in Morioka founded in 1964, owns Ca va?, the French-named canned mackerel created after the 2011 tsunami to rebuild the Sanriku coast's processing trade. The tin is contract-packed by Iwate Kanzume in Kamaishi, and it helped drive the boom that pushed canned mackerel past tuna as Japan's favourite tinned fish.
