The Fish Society

The Fish Society was started by journalist Alistair Blair in 1994, sending out its first price list as a single laser-printed page from Guildford, forty miles from the sea and a hundred miles from the nearest fishing port. The company built its reputation on flash-freezing fish within days of landing rather than selling it fresh, arguing the practice preserves quality better than a supermarket counter. Its tinned range sits alongside its core frozen-fish trade: own-label potted shrimp and prawns plus resold tins from Ortiz and other Spanish and Portuguese canneries.
