Póvoa de Varzim
A northern fishing town with a deep-sea fishing heritage, just up the coast from Porto. Its canning tradition centres on Conservas A Poveira, founded in 1938 and maker of the Minerva brand, known for artisanal methods and fresh local fish. Sardines, mackerel, and tuna packed in olive oil and sauces are the principal products, drawn from the town's Atlantic catches.
