The long Tyrrhenian and Ionian coasts of Italy's southern tip, with a deep tuna-fishing heritage centred on the historic tonnare that once netted bluefin on their migration routes. Pizzo and the Calabrian coast became known for tonno and for preserving the prized cuts of the fish. Callipo, founded in Pizzo in 1913, is the region's landmark producer, alongside houses like Silano, packing tuna and other Mediterranean species in olive oil.
