Miguel Solano Bustamante rowed for Spain in the coxed pair at the 1968 Mexico Olympics and took twenty-nine national titles before setting up as an anchovy canner in Santoña, working the craft he had learned from his mother, Anita Bustamante. The plant sits, aptly, on Calle La Anchoa in the town's industrial estate and has grown from 600 to 1,600 square metres under his son Miguel Solano Arriola, manager since 2000. The house works only fresh Cantabrian fish from the spring costera, and its manager campaigns publicly for a protected designation for the Cantabrian anchovy.
