Alimentación Diferente

Lázaro del Cerro Portillo opened a small grocery on the corner of Santa Lucía and Lope de Vega in Santander around 1940, and his son Juan del Cerro Amparán turned it into one of the city's first supermarkets in 1961.

It was Juan who found the niche the family still works, betting that a demanding clientele would pay for specialisation, and opened the Diferente gourmet shop on Calle Vargas. His daughters Pilar and Virginia del Cerro Escudero run the firm now, across two Santander shops and an online counter more than a decade old, built on Iberian charcuterie, Cantabrian preserves and cheese.
