Ángel Costas and Floriano Miñán founded Costas y Miñán in 1966 at Vilaxoán on the Ría de Arousa, and named the brand for the mariscadoras, the women shellfish gatherers of the ría who still supply the raw material. The house now works from Cambados under a third generation of canners, keeps mechanical intervention to a minimum and packs with an all-female team. The Clásica line carries most of the volume through Galician supermarkets while the Selecta round tins reach Harrods and Galeries Lafayette.
