Miyagi

A Sanriku-coast prefecture centred on the great fishing port of Ishinomaki, one of Japan's largest landing harbours. The confluence of cold and warm currents offshore makes these waters exceptionally productive. Kinoya Ishinomaki Suisan is the area's notable cannery, known for its mackerel and for rebuilding after the 2011 tsunami. Mackerel, saury, and other Sanriku species define the local pack.
