If there is usually bread on the side of a tin, now and then it can be a cracker instead. Not a saltine though: you want a heartier, sturdier cracker that can hold some mashed goodness, a few shellfish pieces, or a smoked fillet flaked over a bed of cream cheese. The sturdier build is the whole point, so it carries the topping without crumbling under the oil. Great for snacking or as part of a spread.
