Creative Gourmet
Rui Pinto was a marketing manager and Fátima Martins a flight attendant when they started Creative Gourmet, neither of them having worked a day in the food trade.
They built it as a shop window for Portuguese makers, most of them small, gathering preserves, condiments, oils, herbs, teas and chocolate under one roof at an industrial unit in Santo Tirso, north of Porto. Pinto's stated argument is that the gourmet label needs demystifying rather than defending, and the range is priced to make that case. Portuguese conservas run through it as a category in their own right.
